The exhibition Works of Life – Firefighters create works of art, curated by Jimmy Chitas, took place from Thursday December 15th to Saturday December 17th at the Project Gallery.
Firefighters with a variety of visual media participated in the exhibition, and who with their works "tour" Greece, its natural and urban landscape, with frequent references to the field of action, recording unseen and visible aspects of their environment and everyday life.
The exhibition WORKS OF LIFE - FIREFIGHTERS CREATE ARTWORKS was a first public presentation of works by Greek firefighters. The exhibition was welcomed and hosted at THE PROJECT GALLERY, where colleagues' works were presented in the context of thematic visual activities.
An effort and an action as an island of reflection and creativity, an antidote to the harsh everyday life.
In a period of social crisis in which widespread frustration causes depreciation and flattening of human value, offering islands of reflection and creativity is an antidote and a source of mental alertness and courage, a proposal to reapproach the essential.

The exhibition WORKS OF LIFE - FIREFIGHTERS CREATE ARTWORKS was a first public presentation of works by Greek firefighters.
The need to create, the need to act through another framework that also contains accumulated energy using the available expressive means, is for everyone, especially for us firefighters, an escape route, a "relief valve" that relieves us from the pressure of events and the intensity of action moments. As viewers, we shared their anguish over the outcome, distancing ourselves from the social gloom and drawing optimism.
With this exhibition we aimed to the maximum extent possible to communicate this optimism to the public, because through each painting exhibited another eye of our world was and remains possible, as long as you mentally go through the process of getting to know the visual reality . Another face of the firefighters, through their artistic proposals, revealed the pervasive sensitivity. All of this with the sole intention of expressing the pressure, the emotion, and all that the human being who is still a living organism under the uniform feels and has to channel, putting out what he feels, maintaining that balance after all what he has seen and experienced.
We have to recognize the need for everyone to tell their story and we thank them because our space is a place of offering.
